From pain to purpose: the Maranatha story
How one pastor's memories of the classroom became a network of tuition-free Christian schools in Pakistan.
Where the story begins
The story of Maranatha starts in a school classroom. Rev. Dr. Naeem Nasir grew up in a Christian home in Pakistan, and his father was the headmaster of a government high school. Even so, as a boy he was insulted and belittled day after day because of his faith. In a class of more than sixty pupils, only two were Christians.
He watched Christian friends give up. Four of his close friends, bright and capable, left school and ended up in poorly paid work. The hurt of those years stayed with him, and in prayer it became a question: if a boy with an educated father felt this much pain, what becomes of the children who have no one to stand with them?
A school opens its doors
For years he carried that question to God. In 2021, by the grace of God, the answer took the shape of a school. Maranatha Christian High School opened on the Good Samaritan Church campus in Haji Park, Lahore, offering a quality education without tuition fees to Christian children from poor homes.
From the start it was more than a place of lessons. Daily Bible classes, Sunday School, memory-verse challenges and Bible study groups made faith part of every school day, and the school became a safe and caring place where children could grow in mind and in spirit.
Every step guided by God's hand
- 2021
The first school opens
About 250 pupils enrol at Haji Park, Lahore, on the campus of Good Samaritan Church, and the school soon passes 300.
- 2021 to 2022
Lessons on the rooftop
With very few resources, teachers carry winter lessons up to the roof to catch the sunshine, and the school keeps going through the summer heat without air conditioning.
- March 2022
The first full year ends
A prize-giving of about two hours celebrates the best grades, performance and attitude, and the teachers are honoured too.
- 2022 to 2023
Official recognition
The school receives government recognition for its curriculum and standards, in line with the Punjab Board syllabus.
- November 2023
Kingdom Advance Christian School
The third tuition-free school opens in the village of Seowal, where more than 60 Christian families live.

A school in Dina
Primary classes begin in the church premises at Dina, Jhelum, after many requests from the local Christian community.
- Today
A growing movement
More than 500+ pupils have been served since 2021, and the vision reaches further: more schools, stronger churches and trained leaders.
Faith through hard seasons
Building a school with very little money has taken faith and creativity. Teachers, parents and supporters have worked side by side, and the hardships have sharpened the resolve of everyone involved rather than weakening it.
For many families the school has given back their dignity. Parents who feared their children would have to go out to work now see them learning and growing. Children who might have been drawn into labour or exploitation now have the chance to develop the gifts God has given them.
What began as one school has become a movement: encouraging others to open schools, widening the work among children, and showing that Christian education can reach the families who have least.
